Will there be any sort of trade system in AoH3?

E.g. trade routes. Otherwise I am unsure what the purpose of the resources in each province/region/area are for - unless someone knows the answer to this?

The trade mechanic will not be included in the game. Resources are the source of income — yet this income may be significantly reduced (or increased) due to random events happening, like flood or massive building project. Also largest producer of the resource gains significant bonus.
