Questions about intervening in war

I only have two questions about this mechanic

 

1. Will it give you any kind of bonus, like improving relationship with a country on which side you fought?

 

2. What is the difference between intervening and just starting a war with the one of two countries fighting?

2. You help in a war on the side of that civilization, which means you won’t be able to make demands in the peace treaty afterward.

should be able to request the leader of the war for the lands we want but we cant demand
