In this video Lukasz shows how Age of History 3 performs on Samsung's 2022 flagship, the so-called Samsung S22. You can notice how the phone suffers when Lukasz zooms out and moves the camera over the region, which is densely populated with civilizations. You should consider additional factors as well:

  • The map is not finished. Actually, this is the first test map we've ever shown;
  • The game is paused, so no calculations are performed in the background;
  • The AI is not implemented.

Thus, should we be prepared for much poorer performance during actual gameplay? Sadly, it seems like this is the case. And what's even worse, there is another major factor that may result in decreasing stability.

The game is written in Java. For those of you who don't know, Java is cross-platform, so Lukasz shouldn't rewrite game code for each platform. To be so, Java takes an additional step to convert source code to bytecode and then a device-specific JVM converts it to actual code understandable by device. It results in more RAM being used as well as a speed downgrade. Actually the speed of Java is not that bad, but taking into account that the game will process the behavior of 400 states in real-time, it can be slower than applications written in languages "closer to metal", like C++. Games made by Paradox are written on C++ and you can see how heavily they rely on the CPU and how slow they are in the late-game.

As Lukasz hasn't started to work on AI behavior, we can only guess how well the engine will handle it. But we all should be ready for the game to be a bit slower than we all expect, especially on mobile devices.

TLDR; game may perform much worse than we all expect due to Java being used as well as game complexity. The videos posted by Lukasz do not show the actual speed of game as AI is not implemented, resulting in much less calculations performing in the background.

I am a wide screen mobile player, and this now concerns me. The accessibility of AOH2 is what made it special. And it not running like trash too

THE END IS NIGH

THY TIME HAS COME

Yep. My laptop is crap and I'm really worried about how stable the game will be after AI is implemented. Waiting for AI demonstration on YouTube, as there is still a chance that the speed will not suffer that much. I want to see how Lukasz's computer handles it. Let's hope he knows what he is doing.

I think he might fix it with updates but I'm just being optimistic, lets hope aoh3 isn't a vic3

    • Campaign: Small Scenarios
In this topic, share your ideas for Campaign scenarios.

These scenarios focus on a small part of the map, with the rest designated as wasteland.

For example, a scenario of the Reconquista in 1054, where gameplay takes place only on the Iberian Peninsula.

What are your ideas for small historical scenarios?

    • Events - Common events for every civilization in the game
      Hi,
in this topic, I am interested in your ideas for events that can happen for every Civilization in the game.
I'm also interested in Missions for every Civilization.

Here is some example, have more than 10k army, have more than 5000 gold, build 10 buildings, recruit an Advisor, increase tax efficiency 20 times, be largest  producer of some resource in the world, unlock 5 Civilization legacies etc.

    • Land units - Ideas AoH3
AoH3 will have different types of land units.

In this topic we will write ideas for new land units.

So the AoH 3 will have new battle system.

Representation of the battlefield in the game.

Land units will be grouped into 3 types. Each unit will have a different recruitment cost, attack, defense, movement speed and upkeep.

Groups determine the placement of units on the battlefield.

Each unit can be unlocked by researching technology and then upgraded.

Here is the current list of units with upgrades:

      First line:

Warrior -> Light Footmen -> Heavy Infantry -> Infantry -> Line Infantry -> Modern Infantry

Hoplites -> Spearmen -> Pikeman -> Elite Pikeman -> Musketeer -> Riflemen -> Mechanized Infantry -> Modern Mechanized Infantry

      First line side:

Horseman -> Elite Horseman -> Cavalry -> Tank -> Modern Tank

      Second line:

Archer -> Bowmen -> Crossbowman -> Elite Crossbowman

Canon -> Field Cannon -> Artillery -> Modern Artillery

Early Airplane -> Airplane -> Modern Airplane

This is a very early version, so maybe something should be changed?

Or maybe an idea for a new type of unit with upgrades? I'm waiting for your suggestions.
