This is definitely possible, you just need to play around with the variables.

Create a single event that the player can click at any time and set two outcomes - Friend with France / Fight with France. Set the variable according to the player's choice, either “decided_to_fight_with_France” or “decided_to_befriend_France”. Then check this variable for other events to know exactly which path the player chose.

BTW, It would be great to be able to hide/show missions in the missions tree. For example, add one visible mission and three invisible missions to the same position. Some player actions could make the invisible mission replace the visible one 😛

@Łukasz Jakowski Is there a limit to the number of outcomes for an event?

is it possible to trigger a global event if a civilization has completed an event or mission?

for example if germany does a mission to get an event to ally italy, the rest of the world recieves a global event that germany and italy have made an alliance

There is no need to specify the receiver of event, so it should be possible i think... Just trigger an event with no conditions?

Another thing is that the game seems to save the ID of each event to a list of variables when you make a decision. So after such global events, a few hundred civilizations will expand their variables list with the name of the event, which can slightly increase the size of the save 😛
