Łukasz Jakowski 13,395 Posted October 6, 2024 After each battle, your armies will suffer casualties and will require reinforcement. Reinforcing the army requires not only manpower but also gold, which is determined by the unit cost and the number of units being reinforced. DRM 105 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) "Perfect, but I have a small suggestion. I'm not sure if someone has already mentioned it or if you have." Army Morale System Concept: After each battle, not only would you lose soldiers physically, but the army's morale would also be affected. Morale would be a gauge representing the troops' readiness, confidence, and psychological resilience. If morale drops too low, the army may become less effective, more prone to desertion, or even surrender in future battles. How It Would Work: 1. Battle's Impact on Morale: Crushing victories: If the player wins with minimal losses, the army's morale would increase, reflecting high spirits and greater readiness for future fights. Costly victories: Even if the army wins, if the casualties are significant, morale would slightly decrease due to the emotional toll and weariness. Defeats: A defeat would obviously cause a sharp drop in morale, and troops may be less motivated to fight again without a good morale boost. Ties or strategic retreats: Morale would be affected depending on the narrative. If the army retreats with minimal losses, morale might stay stable, but if there were heavy losses during the retreat, morale would drop. 2. Recovering Morale: Time: Over the course of turns or in-game days, troop morale would naturally recover slowly. Reinforcements: Recruiting new soldiers could help restore morale, as it reinforces the sense of security among the troops. Special Resources: You could suggest introducing certain resources like "quality food" or "specialized training" that would speed up morale recovery. Leadership: A general with charismatic or leadership skills could recover morale faster than one without these qualities. 3. Impact of Morale on Military Performance: High morale: An army with high morale could have combat bonuses, such as increased damage, better resilience, or even faster movement. Low morale: If morale is low, troops could suffer penalties like lower attack accuracy, higher chance of desertion, or even surrendering earlier. Desertions: If morale drops to extremely low levels, you could have cases of desertion, where soldiers abandon the army and leave you with fewer units. 4. Random Morale Events: You could propose that there be special events or decisions that affect morale, such as "celebrating a victory," "granting land to soldiers," or even "reducing pay" if resources are scarce, which could positively or negatively impact morale depending on how it's managed. Benefits for the Player: The player would have to manage not only the numbers on the battlefield but also the emotional state of their troops, adding a layer of strategic depth. Post-battle decisions would become more critical: Do you rest to recover morale, or push forward even though your army is morally weakened? It would add more variety and realism to longer campaigns, where troops suffer not only from physical losses but also from mental and moral exhaustion. Without money army would still reinforce, but lack of money would debuff money income as because of inflation by printing money for forcefully army reinforce? That policy can be turned true by events?
