Diplomatic recognition

Recommended Posts

The mechanics of establishing/breaking diplomatic relations could perfectly complement the diplomacy in the game.

It would be possible to establish/request, as well as break off diplomatic relations with other civilizations, as well as demand recognition as a peacy treaty condition (both the civilization itself and all its vassals/allies will be recognized, this is useful when playing as minor unrecognized civilizations, as well as for civilizations with a very large number of satellites, for example, as it was with France during the Revolutionary/Napoleonic Wars).

Without mutual recognition with another civilization, diplomatic functions with it may be limited (only improvement/deterioration of relations and declaration of war), besides there would be a penalty for improving relations. Major countries are recognized by all civilizations by default, but it would still be possible to break off relations with them.

A civilization that doesn't have diplomatic relations with at least one/two major civilizations is marked "unrecognized" and has a big debuff to diplomacy/legacies. If a civilization changes the type of government, it may lose diplomatic relations with countries that had the same type of government that the civilization had before (it will also save the player and the AI from constant mindlessly changing the type of government).

To simplify the mechanics, the establishment of diplomatic relations may just be a bilateral action (i.e. request => acceptance/rejection, and after that both countries are considered to recognize each other, similarly with the breaking off relations), not unilateral (like a guarantee of independence, when only one civilization recognize another).

marked "unrecognized"

I mean literally the separately displayed status of a civilization in the civilization's menu.

It would also be possible to add a "violate sovereignty" dipomatic action, which would work against neighboring unrecognized powers and allow military acess through their territory without a diplomatic offer/ultimatum. The military acess  will be obtained automatically, but at the same time, the civilization against which this action was committed will receive a choice: to accept or resist. To prevent this option from being exploited, the AI will always choose the second option if the "intruder" doesn't have at least three times the superiority in army strength and significant numerical superiority near the border (similar to ultimatums in AoC2). If this option is selected, war will be declared on the invading enemies. Regardless of the choice, the action of "violating sovereignty" will worsen relations with all neighboring civilizations.

Based on this mechanics, another cool thing can be created: collaborationist administrations. David, the author of the BE2 mod, has already tried to do something similar (but more primitive) for AoH2. The meaning is simple: right during the war in the occupied enemy territories (with the exception of the capital, this should also not work with civilizations with less than 10 provinces), the player would be able to release a vassal that has this provinces as a core. At the same time, such vassal would have a limit on the maximum number of troops, debuffs to everything and an automatic state of war with the original owner of the province. Then, when choosing the peace condition "diplomatic recognition", these satellites would become ordinary vassals (as the satellites of Napoleonic France were recognized by the anti-French coalition under the terms of peace treaties at the beginning of the XIX century). Thus, an opportunity for the player/AI would be limited to exploit such mechanics.

    • Campaign: Small Scenarios
In this topic, share your ideas for Campaign scenarios.

These scenarios focus on a small part of the map, with the rest designated as wasteland.

For example, a scenario of the Reconquista in 1054, where gameplay takes place only on the Iberian Peninsula.

What are your ideas for small historical scenarios?

      Hi,
in this topic, I am interested in your ideas for events that can happen for every Civilization in the game.
I'm also interested in Missions for every Civilization.

Here is some example, have more than 10k army, have more than 5000 gold, build 10 buildings, recruit an Advisor, increase tax efficiency 20 times, be largest  producer of some resource in the world, unlock 5 Civilization legacies etc.

    • Land units - Ideas AoH3
AoH3 will have different types of land units.

In this topic we will write ideas for new land units.

So the AoH 3 will have new battle system.

Representation of the battlefield in the game.

Land units will be grouped into 3 types. Each unit will have a different recruitment cost, attack, defense, movement speed and upkeep.

Groups determine the placement of units on the battlefield.

Each unit can be unlocked by researching technology and then upgraded.

Here is the current list of units with upgrades:

      First line:

Warrior -> Light Footmen -> Heavy Infantry -> Infantry -> Line Infantry -> Modern Infantry

Hoplites -> Spearmen -> Pikeman -> Elite Pikeman -> Musketeer -> Riflemen -> Mechanized Infantry -> Modern Mechanized Infantry

      First line side:

Horseman -> Elite Horseman -> Cavalry -> Tank -> Modern Tank

      Second line:

Archer -> Bowmen -> Crossbowman -> Elite Crossbowman

Canon -> Field Cannon -> Artillery -> Modern Artillery

Early Airplane -> Airplane -> Modern Airplane

This is a very early version, so maybe something should be changed?

Or maybe an idea for a new type of unit with upgrades? I'm waiting for your suggestions.
